Carvefest!
New for 2015 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Tweed Valley Forest Festival and the Wood Market weekend, we added a new and exciting event to the Peebles Wood Market weekend…Carvefest!
We had 12 of the best chainsaw carvers in the UK, including the top 3 from the 2015 Scottish Chainsaw Carving Championships all carving from 10.30 am to 4.30 pm on Saturday 24 and from 10.30 am to 3 pm on Sunday 25 October. Gary Shand was voted both the ‘Carvers Choice’ and the ‘Peoples Choice’ for his Bears on a Tree carving over the weekend. Most pieces were successfully sold at the auction on the Sunday afternoon, and found new homes dotted around Edinburgh and the Borders. Please contact us via the website, if you would like to discuss the possibility of commissioning a piece.
Our audience were able to chat to the carvers, watch them individually and be amazed at how a bear or owl can materialise in front of their eyes from a chunk of timber. They may be some of our more noisier artists, showing off their expertise over the weekend but they are captivating to watch and you might even decide to take home a beautiful wooden sculpture for your home or garden!
We are hoping to have something similar happening on the Tweed Green again this year.
